Business creation is reduced by 7%, with a greater incidence in Catalonia

In the first ten months of the year, 80,727 new companies have been registered in Spain, 7% less than in the same period of 2016, according to the Study on Business Demography published by Informa D&B,  a leader in the provision of Commercial, Financial, Sectoral Information and Marketing. In October the drop is 2% compared to the previous year, with 7,189 constitutions counted, which is 25% higher than in September.

The invested capital data has also been cut so far Email Data this year, by 19% to just over 4.3 billion euros. Although in October investment grew slightly, 2%, reaching 387 million euros.

mapAccording to Nathalie Gianese , Director of Studies at Informa D&B: “ October ends with a deterioration in all business demographic indicators for the fourth consecutive month. If this trend persists, 2017 will end with fewer constitutions than the previous year and with a decline in business mortality.”

The number of incorporations among high-tech companies decreases to a lesser extent, 5% since January, remaining at 4,074. And a little more in October, 14%, leaving 330 new companies, which represent 5% of the national total. Most of the companies created this month, 82%, belong to high technology services and the rest to high or medium-high technology manufacturing sectors. The accumulated capital investment, 155 million euros, increased by 24% compared to the same period in 2016, although in October the increase was smaller, 2%.

The companies incorporated in October have involved the appointment of 7,189 administrators, which shows the existence of very small governing bodies since the most common case is that of a sole Administrator. 23% of the positions on the boards of directors of these companies are occupied by women.

Catalonia accounts for the greatest decrease with 2,618 fewer constitutions

Madrid leads the creation data in these ten months, with 17,157, followed by Catalonia, which reaches 16,269, and Andalusia, with 13,061. Between the three they represent 58% of the national total. But Catalonia is the community that has reduced its figures the most in absolute value this year, subtracting 2,618 new companies from the 2016 numbers, while Madrid is the only one that has grown, by 2%, to add 380 more creations.




In October, it is the same communities that accumulate the most constitutions: Madrid counts 1,624, 2% more than the same month last year, Catalonia remains at 1,298, a drop of 12%, again the highest in absolute value, leaving 171 companies , and Andalusia cuts 4% to 1,216.

The Madrid community concentrates the largest capital investment since January, more than 1,000 million euros, a decrease of 29%, the highest in absolute value in the country. Catalonia is second with nearly 860 million euros. In October, Madrid is also the autonomous region where the most investment is made, 118 million euros.

Commerce is the sector with the most creations although it leads the cuts

The sectors where the most companies are created in the annual cumulative total are Commerce, with 17,552, 22% of the total, Construction, with 17,450, another 22%, and Business Services, with 11,279, 14%. Commerce suffers the greatest decline, 2,185 fewer constitutions. Only Financial Intermediation and Energy increased, 17% and 53%.

In October, the same sectors are those with the highest number of new companies, although Construction, with 1,640, overtakes Commerce, which registers 1,543. Business services reaches 997. Commerce is also the one that loses the most compared to the same month last year, subtracting 150 constitutions.

Financial intermediation accumulates the highest capital investment with 1,460 million euros since January, followed by Construction with 1,193 million euros, although they decreased by 19% and 38% each. Between the two of them they account for more than 60% of all the capital invested so far this year. Financial intermediation is also the one that reaches the most in October, almost 170 million euros.
